The Artist of Play was an opening exhibition of Kumma Gallery. In this exhibition, works from seven artists working in the Finnish game industry in various roles, were on display. Games are the most significant cultural and artistic phenomenon of our century. As a whole, digital games consist of several art forms, the most visible of which are visual arts. In Finland, the gaming industry consists of approximately 4,000 professionals, of which approximately 1,000 work in visual art roles. There is a person behind every game: games, despite their technological emphasis, are not born in automation. The works are often designed by a team of creative people. Although the world of digital games is often thought of as an island, it was not born out of thin air and does not live in a vacuum. Several creators of the game industry have non-digital artistic backgrounds and practices, of which only a fraction will be presented in this exhibition.
