Hahmotuksia/Figurings was the debut exhibition of game researcher Annakaisa Kultima, which explored the concept of play and playfulness through character creation. Kultima had been active in the field of visual and interactive art since 2003, with a primary focus on digital media. While Kultima was renowned for her work as a game researcher, studying the creative processes of game developers globally, she had also been involved in various projects as a graphic designer and illustrator.
In Hahmotuksia/Figurings, Kultima explored the naivete of characters. Playfulness was conveyed in the collection through the use of vibrant colors, diverse materials, and simple shapes. The artworks incorporated unconventional materials like recycled cardboard and bubble wrap envelopes, as well as hobby products such as foam and silk clay, often associated with children. Kultima’s characters drew inspiration from childhood and gave in to the frivolity of play. The collection aimed to evoke a sense of lightness, wonder, and tenderness amidst the intertwined worlds of adult chaos, purpose, and productivity.
